Is It True? 03:48
I stole a green onion from you I never felt like writing to you Before now We are the kings of our own kingdom We are the beams of our own wisdom You know I can read in your mind Birds have fallen In my open arms As I sang Babies are born And then No more agony Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? I ran away to fall asleep Until I found the perfect creek And I dreamed Of all the stars watching over me And my guitar guided me into the dark I’d been loving the dark Birds have fallen In my open arms As I sang Babies are born And then No more agony Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Birds have fallen In my open arms Babies are born And then No more agony Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true? Is it true?

You say I don’t like oranges You pray that I stay renegade But if I, but if I, but if I try I owe you You say a youngster’s never fair One rain as a snake in the air But if I, but if I, but if I cry Embrace you I’ll hold you You care that I don’t seek to forget I lay watching the dusk flood me But if I, but if I, but if I die Retain you I’ll hold you I never told you I never told you The truth is gonna be you The truth is gonna be you The truth is gonna be you

The Hollow 04:17
It was in the hollow of my sleeve It fell off the cloud and danced with me Emulate the painless, the reckless, the endless rest It was in the hollow of my teeth Licking all the bruises on my skin Linger in the crossroads, the echos, the liminal low And I I've been searching the pieces The living needs light The dead needs music It was in the hollow of my sleeve Look at all the peaches falling free Gravity is faintless, I lifted my crystal past It was in the hollow of my feet Measuring the paces of the creek I sat under a rainbow, it felt home, no time to vault And I I've been meeting the pieces The living needs light The dead needs music It was in the faces of the landscapes, in the faces of the landscapes I knew It would You were in the faces of the landscapes, in the faces of the landscapes I knew you would It was in the faces of the landscapes, in the faces of the landscapes I knew it would They were in the faces of the landscapes, in the faces of the landscapes I knew they would It was in the hollow of my sleeve

Spider Lace 03:33
You’re still on the fence somehow I’m a funny face, am I? Finger in my throat, I lied Care and out of faith, revise You are the failure I can’t overcome Didn’t you see the green flower grow out? I spat my magic so the birds could eat You leave like a red sunset as I scream Scratch your scalp with my painted nails Won’t you tell what it is that you seek? Spider or stranger you carry the heat Spider or stranger you carry the heat Spider lace’s a wish, a pride I’m a funny face, says I Without and out I’d lose my mind Tell a joke you’ll laugh in time You are the failure I can’t overcome You push my feathers and drive me home Illusions mature in me in my spine Scratch your scalp with my painted nails Spider or stranger you carry the heat Spider or stranger you carry the heat

Urchin Tooth 03:27
I carry an urchin tooth To bring me luck and proof That I misunderstood The world, the feelings I lose We sat upon the dune And I didn’t know, never thought I would You look so silly when you laugh I carry an urchin tooth To bring me luck and proof That I misunderstood The love, the silence induced The blue shade hid the wolf The sea fell down swallowed me and mourned You look so hazy when you try Send me to fire Before I awake Before I lose my mind Send me to fire Before I awake Before I lose my mind Send me to fire Before I awake Before I lose my mind Send me to fire Before I awake Before I awake

Two blue snake earrings A mother and nothing else in a café Red fabric nailed into the ceiling An absent hello I chose the blue dress for you A naked mattress on the floor A yellow blanket on a mattress on the floor One crack pipe two children The Call of the North and a tiny house in Sweden A pastel pink and blue sky Tears in my eyes An animal attacking, raging, craving Remove the hair, remove the veil Shall I die on a chest from the heat and the love? Two naked children on a mattress on the floor A quick hug, a quick smile Your hard cock I say we made love not we fucked Two blue snake earrings falling from my ears Two blue snake earrings on the floor I listened to you falling asleep not believing how lucky I was to witness it I slept in the half, dreamt of nothing, no walls this time It was like the pastel pink and blue sky Easy A Christmas song on the piano And tears in my eyes again “I’m gonna miss you” Not for three weeks, I meant What if I had stayed and ‘be holding your hand in that plane? But the man in the snowfield isn’t you And it isn’t me I don’t remember you wanting that lamp I don’t remember you wanting me An animal hides in the swaying grass And your muscled arms hold me Hold me

Window 04:13
My window Broke and fell apart Leaving all my scars Homeless My window Changed my skin in water I slept with all the flowers For a while And Winter Was blowing at the door Waiting at my soul He’d just bought Oh my window Opened all my bones The blood on the floor Reminded me Reminded me Reminded me Trees Were wisdom’s mystery In lands of Blumen fields Dying I could see The coldness of the wind The perfume of the sins In songs of love And the eyes Dream of paradise Tearing out the lines In two Oh my window Flew over my heart I wondered how to talk It reminded me Reminded me Reminded me To let you see me It reminded me Reminded me How it hurts to let you see me It reminded me To let you see me

about

'Selfhood' is the debut EP from Montreal DIY artist Everly Lux. Recorded and produced with a women/non-binary-only team, this 7-song journey is an ode to becoming and belonging to yourself. Using poetic lyrics, each song is a story that aims to dig deep into the dichotomies of love, grief, violence and reality. 'The Hollow' tries to grasp, define and baptize grief, wondering whether to use 'it', 'you' or 'they' for it. Questioning surrealism and love, songs 'Is It True?' and 'Oranges and Truth' gently allow pop and folk to merge, while 'Spider Lace', an unconventional ballad, crosses the line to darkness, experimenting with electronic. 'Urchin Tooth', the drone-y anger anthem of 'Selfhood', critiques rape culture, followed by 'Two Blue Snake Earrings', a spoken word dreamlike mash of Debussy, Allen Ginsberg poetry and marimba soundscapes. The journey ends with 'Window', a majestic piece that redeems the beauty and the pain of making yourself visible - to others and to yourself.
